I think I know what you’re thinking…
I’ve never done yoga… just not interested.
I’m not flexible enough to do yoga.
Is this like meditation? I’ve tried that before, but I have a hard time sitting still.
I took a community yoga class once but didn’t get what the hype was about. Is this any different from that class where I looked around a lot and didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing?
Let’s put all that aside and focus on this simple truth…
The BEST way to heal is by reconnecting with your body.
No matter how much we try to ignore and avoid it, our body is full of emotional expressions and physical sensations. Those emotions and sensations tell us a bigger story about where you need healing. The tightness in your hips and aches in your shoulders are clues about what might be out of balance in your life.
Our sleep, digestion, and cognition can also be compromised or challenged due to old trauma or “psychological injury.”
Somatic movement and yoga therapy is a mind-body therapy that addresses the connection between these mental and physical processes.
Here’s what it looks like…
This holistic approach puts you in touch with your body by combining traditional psychotherapy with movement, relaxation, deep breathing, and imagery.
When the body experiences emotional trauma, the body is often “stuck” in the “fight, flight, or freeze” response the body uses to protect itself from further pain. Yogic movement and breath counteract the stress response, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, relaxing the nervous system, slowing breathing, and restoring digestion.
Yoga, breathwork, and movement all provide this calming benefit.
Somatic Movement
It can include subtle movements, starting at the body’s midline and working to outer limbs, or gentle rocking movements lying flat on your back. Movement is commonly used to ease symptoms associated with trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, grief, addiction, chronic pain, sexual dysfunction, and digestive issues.
Yoga Therapy
This self-empowering tool uses specific postures, sequences, and breathwork to heal you by releasing the tension, aiding movement, and improving flexibility. Yoga therapy can be used to focus on and target a specific area of the body; it uses the natural capacity of the body and mind to optimize well-being.
Let’s get you centered and grounded again!
Once you know what your body needs to function in emotional and physical harmony, it is possible.
You can feel lighter, more balanced, and healthier mentally and physically. You can benefit from somatic movement and yoga therapy regardless of your fitness, movement abilities, or physical limitations.
